Amazon's Mattermeade Data Center project is a significant development planned for Caroline and Spotsylvania Counties in Virginia. Spanning 1,143 acres, the campus will feature 11 two-story data center buildings and one office building, designed using Amazon's standardized layouts. The project aims to deliver a minimum of 770MW of data center capacity by 2027, addressing the growing demand for computing and data storage infrastructure.
The campus will include access roads, parking lots, dock areas, stormwater management facilities, and three substation pads to connect the campus to the electrical grid. Cooling water will be sourced from Spotsylvania County's municipal supply. To mitigate environmental impacts, Amazon plans to purchase wetland and stream credits.
This initiative is part of Amazon's broader commitment to invest $35 billion in Virginia's data center infrastructure by 2040, with the goal of establishing a data center in every county between Northern Virginia and Richmond. The Mattermeade project underscores Amazon's dedication to expanding its digital infrastructure while supporting local economic growth and technological advancement.
