Microsoft's Lyle Creek datacenter, currently under construction, represents a significant expansion of Microsoft's infrastructure in North Carolina. Slated to begin operations in March 2024, the project is expected to span 18-24 months, with the site located in Conover on Highway 16, Catawba County.

This new facility, known as Project Agate, is set to encompass 220 acres and could potentially house up to five buildings upon completion. The construction process involves meticulous site preparation, including the excavation and crushing of rock, sometimes necessitating controlled blasting during early afternoons to manage larger formations.

Microsoft's commitment to the region is evident through its investment, pledging at least $1 billion for the development of four data centers in Catawba County over the next decade.
