The Altamira Project, spearheaded by Stoneshield Capital and its subsidiary XDC Properties, is set to become a transformative data center campus in Cantabria, Spain. Spanning an impressive 6.8 million square feet across the Vipar Society industrial estate, this €3.6 billion initiative represents the largest investment in the region's history.
The campus will feature 12 state-of-the-art data center modules, each with a capacity of 40MW, developed in three phases. The first phase, delivering 100MW, is scheduled to begin construction in January 2026 and aims for completion by 2032. Subsequent phases will expand the campus to a total capacity of 500MW. Sustainability is at the heart of the project, with 75,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels providing renewable energy to power the facilities.
Strategically located near the landing station of Meta's Anjana submarine cable, the campus is poised to position Cantabria as a leading technological hub in Europe, rivaling cities like Madrid, Milan, and Frankfurt. The development is expected to generate over 1,500 direct jobs during construction and more than 1,450 jobs during its operational phase, driving significant economic growth in the region.
