AREA Group has embarked on an ambitious project to construct a 156-acre data center campus in Kedah, northern Malaysia. This development, initiated in January 2023, marks AREA Group's first foray into the data center industry. The project is strategically located within the Delapan Special Border Economic Zone, a high-tech park at Bukit Kayu Hitam, near the Thai border.
The campus will be developed in phases, with the first 30-acre parcel already under construction and expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The entire campus, upon completion, will be valued at $15 billion. The site is powered by a 132kV substation, with additional power infrastructure being developed to support the campus. The location was chosen for its ample power and water supply, as well as its connectivity to subsea cables landing in Satun and Songkhla, Thailand.
