The Nelson Mandela Bay Internet Exchange (NMBINX) is a community-run Internet Exchange Point (IXP) that was launched in June 2023. Located in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Area, it operates across one data center and aims to enhance the Internet ecosystem in the Eastern Cape region. NMBINX offers network operators the opportunity to connect with local networks, content providers, and cloud service providers through a single peering point, resulting in faster and more efficient traffic routing, reduced latency, and improved network resilience.

NMBINX is part of INX-ZA's suite of community-run IXPs, which also includes exchanges in Cape Town (CINX), Durban (DINX), and Johannesburg (JINX). The first node of NMBINX is located at the Dimension Data facility in Newton Park, Gqeberha. This initiative is particularly significant for the Eastern Cape, which has experienced multiple simultaneous backhaul failures in the past. By keeping Internet traffic local, NMBINX helps reduce reliance on international transit, lowers costs, and improves latencies.

Location: Gqeberha, South Africa
