MIXP - Mwanza Internet Exchange Point

The Mwanza Internet Exchange Point (MIXP) is a neutral peering point for IP networks in Mwanza, Tanzania, operated by the Tanzania Internet Service Providers Association (TISPA). Established in cooperation with the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), MIXP facilitates local routing of Internet traffic among network operators in Mwanza. This setup reduces the average per-bit delivery cost, decreases latencies, increases available bandwidth, and improves the overall quality of service by ensuring that traffic is routed locally.

Peering at MIXP began in June 2016, following the acquisition of numbering resources from AfriNIC. The exchange is located at the TTCL Head Office in Mwanza and utilizes equipment provided by TCRA, including Cisco Gigabit switches, a Cisco 2811 router, and Dell servers. The exchange supports traffic flows up to 3 Mbps, with occasional higher bursts.
