The Fiji Internet Exchange Point (Fiji-IX) is a crucial infrastructure initiative by the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF) aimed at enhancing the quality and efficiency of internet services in Fiji. Launched with the collaboration of seven key members—Vodafone Fiji Limited, Digicel Fiji Limited, Telecom Fiji Limited, FINTEL, the University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji National University (FNU), and WALESI—Fiji-IX facilitates the local routing of internet traffic, significantly reducing the need for expensive international transit links.

By keeping local traffic within national boundaries, Fiji-IX improves the quality of service (QoS) for consumers, offering faster access to local content and reducing latency from 60ms to as low as 2ms. This initiative not only enhances the user experience but also promotes the development of local ICT services and content, positioning Fiji as a potential ICT hub for the Pacific islands.

Fiji-IX also contributes to market development by supporting services that require high bandwidth and low latency, such as real-time and multimedia services. Additionally, it enhances security and privacy by minimizing the risks associated with sending sensitive data across international borders.
