BHNIX (Bosnia and Herzegovina Neutral Internet Exchange) is the first and only Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It plays a crucial role in the development of the national Internet ecosystem by keeping local Internet traffic local, which helps improve network performance, reduce packet delays, and enhance bandwidth. BHNIX promotes local content and hosting providers, reduces Internet traffic transit costs, and improves user experience. Additionally, it increases network security, especially for e-Government services, and fosters technical research and excellence in network and Internet technologies.

Membership is open to any registered legal entity worldwide, with a particular focus on ISPs with a presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members must have their own AS number, organize connectivity to the peering LAN, and maintain up-to-date Whois information.

Managed by the University of Sarajevo's Tele-Informatics Center (UTIC), BHNIX also hosts K-root and AuthDNS servers, contributing to better Internet traffic performance and stability.
