University Stefan cel Mare Suceava – USV ( http://www.usv.ro ) is a research and higher education public institution in the North-East Region (NUT II) of Romania, providing various educational programs to more than 11000 students. In September 2008, and again, in December 2013, USV underwent institutional external assessment carried out by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (Ro. ARACIS), and was granted the High Confidence Certificate, the highest recognition award in Romanian higher education institutional assessment. In 2007, the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research, and Youth also awarded USV for Multiculturalism. The doctoral programs cover 14 scientific domains; there are more than 500 full-time and part-time doctoral students coordinated by 45 professors. The 12 USV Research Centers are oriented towards applied research covering Cloud computing, multimedia APIs, gesture-based interfaces, wireless communication, holonic systems, grid computing, intelligent systems, efficiency energy, on-line monitoring systems, renewable energy sources, environment protection, and climate change.
Regarding innovation, USV ranked first among Romanian universities, in 2014, according to the classification made by State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) based on the number of patent applications submitted, and on the 122 patents received between 2007 and 2013. USV was awarded the Creativity Trophy in 2014 by OSIM thus recognizing the prolific innovation activity within our university.
Stefan cel Mare University - USV can provide HPC Data Center - cloud infrastructure support ensured by University High Performance Computing Laboratory. The HPC Data Center consists of 2 IBM Clusters with more 1000+ cores, 10.436 TB storage capacities, 6.53 TFlops computing power in double precision (proved by Linpack), 10Gbps bandwidth of clusters connectivity to Internet, and auxiliary installations.
USV main expertise is related to cloud computing. We have worked with most public cloud providers like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Rackspace , etc.
On Amazon we've been working with most of their services like EC2, ELB, S3, Glacier, RDS, SES, Route 53, CloudWatch, EMR, ElasticCache, CloudFront and IAM. On Microsoft, we have been working with Virtual Machines (both Windows and Linux), SQL Databases and Websites and Apps using multiple programming languages.
We also have great expertise in private cloud solutions like OpenStack and VMWare vSphere. We implemented several OpenStack private clouds solutions in production since Grizzly. We configured and maintained the following services on OpenStack: nova compute, neutron (and quantum), cinder (with glusterfs, ceph and nfs), glance, heat, ceilometer, keystone and horizon. For networking we've used neutron and quantum with Open vSwitch and ML2 plugins with open vSwitch and Linux Bridge L2 agents and mechanism drivers. For network types we've used VLANs, GRE, VXLANs.
We deployed monitoring and logging solutions like Nagios, Icinga, Graphite, Munin and ELK stack to monitor large enterprise applications and infrastructure.
USV has also expertise in deploying software solutions using container technologies like Docker.
USV team also has expertise in configuring and managing large and complex hardware infrastructure that rely on cutting edge devices.
