The National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) is a premier research facility in Taiwan, dedicated to advancing the nation's computational capabilities. Established in 1993, NCHC is one of the ten national-level research laboratories under the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL). It serves as Taiwan's primary facility for high-performance computing (HPC) resources, offering extensive support for large-scale computational science and engineering, cluster and grid computing, middleware development, visualization and virtual reality, data storage, networking, and HPC-related training. NCHC is also responsible for the operation of the Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN), the national education and research network of Taiwan.
The Formosa Open eXchange (FOX IX) is a critical component of NCHC's mission to enhance Taiwan's network infrastructure. FOX IX is a public service network exchange system designed to optimize the country's public network hardware infrastructure. It aims to improve cross-network transmission efficiency, reduce network switching costs, and promote the healthy development of Taiwan's Internet exchange. By integrating and constructing cloud data governance bases and providing interconnection services for domestic and foreign telecommunication operators, cable operators, ISPs, ICPs, CDN operators, OTT operators, and cloud service providers, FOX IX plays a vital role in ensuring efficient and cost-effective data transmission across Taiwan.
