IX-West is a Colorado-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing open, neutral, community-oriented, and membership-driven Internet, IT, and Telecommunication interconnectivity in the greater Rocky Mountain West. Their primary objective is to offer a variety of interconnection options for organizations throughout Colorado and beyond.
At its core, IX-West operates a series of Interconnection eXchanges (IXs), which are physical infrastructures that allow participating organizations to directly interconnect their networks. The first IX-West IX, IX-Denver, serves the Denver metro area and has expanded to become the largest internet exchange in the Rocky Mountain region.
IX-West is committed to operating in an open, neutral, and community-focused manner, with a Board of Directors elected by its members. The organization aims to provide lower-cost and more secure alternatives to traditional ISP services through peering, offering additional value-added services such as private interconnection, layer 2 and layer 3 connectivity options, route servers, and DNS root servers.
Organizations that join IX-West can benefit from reduced ISP/Transit bills, increased security, and improved quality of experience by bypassing internet congestion. State and local governments also benefit by keeping traffic local, reducing business costs, and increasing internet stability.
