The exchange emerged from the merger of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) and the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange (BM&F) in 2008, and later integrated with CETIP in 2017. This consolidation created a comprehensive marketplace for trading securities, commodities, and futures.
B3 is not only a hub for trading activities but also provides a suite of post-trade services, including settlement, clearing, deposit, and registration. As of October 2022, it listed 475 companies and boasted a market capitalization of approximately $977.21 billion as of February 2024.
The exchange is overseen by the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM), Brazil's equivalent of the SEC, ensuring a regulated and secure environment for investors and traders alike. B3 continues to innovate, leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the financial markets.
