The DDC leverages Djibouti's strategic position in East Africa as the major meeting point for undersea fiber optic cable systems connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, to Africa. Collocated just meters from the new Djibouti Telecom cable landing station, the DDC offers international telecommunications carriers, mobile network operators, and content delivery network (CDN) providers a new opportunity to establish gateway hub services in Africa, as well connectivity for international services to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Undersea and regional fiber optic cable systems connected to the DDC include:
International: : EIG, SeaMeWe3, Aden - Djibouti, EASSy/WIOC, SEACOM, Ethiopia - Djibouti. Three additional systems - GBI, AAE1 and South Sudan - Djibouti - are planned for the near future.
Regional in Africa: Djibouti - Ethiopia, and Djibouti- Somalia cable systems, with near term plans for fiber connectivity to South Sudan.
The strategic geographical location of the DDC offers service providers a new opportunity to reduce global network operating costs and greatly improve network resilience, latency and performance by accessing a Tier 3 level data center facility in East Africa. The DDC provides the capabilities to install, operate, and manage equipment and vital services in support of establishing an operator's local and regional network in Africa, including neutral collocation facilities, Internet Exchange, and other enhanced services in one of the fastest growing regions in the world.
